It's snowing!!!

The neighbors keep coming outside and doing the "ooh, look," thing, and then everybody goes back inside because it's too cold. It really is very cold.

Wow! Are you expected to get enough snow to cover the ground?

I'm envious. I've never seen real snow. Oh, I've seen little blobs of melting snow on the ground, but I've never seen snow fall from the sky or the "blanket of snow" people talk about. I've heard a lot of, "Oh, it was snowing for days... right before you got here!" I've made it to midlife without any goddam snow! With my luck, on my 70th birthday I'll see it snow, and then I'll keel over dead.

It's covering the ground now - well, the grass and the bushes (and my car) but not the streets so far. It's been going for darn near four hours now. I hope everything doesn't ice up overnight or it's gonna be a mess.

That's what I was saying, I've never really seen it come down like this, either. My part of Texas doesn't get much more snow than southern California does, usually. I've seen snow flurries and once or twice before I've seen it snow hard enough to cover the ground. I famously missed the Christmas Eve snowfall in Galveston a few years ago, which was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime sort of thing. (People came out of church to find it snowing. I bet it really did seem like a miracle.) But I was in Austin at the time, where it was very cold but did not snow a bit.

That would be lucky because it would mean you'd get out of having to shovel your walk or dig out your car. After childhood, snow loses its appeal VERY quickly.
