Tolkien geekiness, scheduling, etc.
I took the medical terminology test on skin and made a 100. Yay, me.
Col and I spent most of the day trying out Lord of the Rings Online - aka LOTRO. There has been a bit of drama about this: Col has been playing for a couple of weeks here and there, and he was apparently rather perplexed when I said something to the effect of, "But I've always wanted to play that! How could you start without me?" Considering how long we've been friends and how much time we spend talking, we sometimes manage not to know each other very well. He seems to have completely overlooked my Tolkien-geek side. (Although I hear that
nonelvis was aware of it!)Actually Col and I didn't get to be really good friends until after the last of the movies was released, so maybe I should give him a pass on that. Anyway, I had actually gotten into the beta of LOTRO back a couple of years ago when it first came out, but the computer I had at the time was completely inadequate and I couldn't ever get it to work. And I never had gotten around to trying again. So I downloaded the free trial this weekend and now we are actually trying and it's pretty fun. And when we got to Michel Delving and I talked to the mayor, I said, "Man! I feel like I'm talking to a celebrity!" I am one of those people who's read the books every couple of years since I was 14, so I feel like I've known who Will Whitfoot was forever. -- So anyway, LOTRO charges a monthly fee, as does WoW, and since I am unemployed and everything, I am probably going to have to make a decision when my 10 free days are up about which one I want to play. Unless I am totally into it by then, I may still put off switching games full-time for a while longer. Unlike Col, I am not really done with WoW yet. (And to be fair, he says that he is still enjoying playing with me; he's just done playing solo. He started playing before I had ever touched an MMORPG, and he has two characters at level 80 already.)
I have not done my taxes - I don't know if I'm going to file an extension or do them at the last minute in a panic. (Most likely I will have a try at the latter, and do the former if that doesn't work out.) My taxes are more complicated than usual because I'm going to be attempting to itemize for the first time ever, since we can deduct storm losses. So we'll see how that goes.
I'm also supposed to go to Austin Friday, and I can't put it off this time - or rather, if I do I will lose the flight credit - evidently this flight is one I've been rescheduling for an entire year. (I actually think I remember what started that - last year we rescheduled the trip to Ohio in April, when um, that airline that I have forgotten the name of went bankrupt, Skyjet or something? and we ended up going to Ohio the same week in May that I was already supposed to go to Austin. So then I rescheduled it for September, and of course we did go to Austin in September, but we ended up driving, because of the storm. And I think it got rescheduled at least once more after that, too.) We are supposed to be winding up the estate (yeah, I know, again) but the papers from the lawyer are MIA. So we'll see if we can get that taken care of this week, too. And I'd really like to work some studying in there somehow - not to mention some LOTRO. I don't know how all that's going to work out.
(I should probably get back to the studying, shouldn't I?)
(In case anybody is wondering what the hell that icon is, it's Cleolinda's Secret Life of Dolls, which is the closest thing to a Tolkien icon I seem to have at the moment.) (I swear I used to have one that said "Still Not King." I probably deleted it because I wasn't using it much, but I would like to have it back, darnit.)
