I can't tell if the shows are getting worse or I'm getting pickier (I suspect a combination of the two but mostly the latter after this year in politics), but I find myself gritting my teeth over the white male angst at the center of nearly every show that is in a genre I would watch. I finally dropped my Netflix subscription last month.

The update about Poirot made me laugh though -- I read your blog yesterday and I thought "Really? I don't remember Poirot being there at all!" but it's been 35+ years since I read it, so I thought I'd just forgotten. I get a bunch of them mixed up as well.
