Let's see, what have I done this weekend? Today I've done nothing, really - well, unless you count having read an entire Anne Perry mystery as something. And I played KoL and I went through some of my massive collection of links and cleaned house. Oh, and I paid some bills. So that doesn't sound too awful, really.
(Putting the rest of this under an LJ-cut for gratuitous ranting about shopping.)
Yesterday my mother decided we should go to Burlington Coat Factory. She is still catching up on her shopping, I guess. Also she has a friend who she thinks is terribly fashionable (she is, I guess, in sort of an overdressed-elderly-lady sort of way) who just worships that store. And I hate it. It's icky and warehouse-y and the service is awful and it's just one of those places I don't go voluntarily, you know? I last went in there more than a year ago to buy a wool coat, and I did buy one and I like my coat and it was very reasonably priced, but I still hated that place. So yeah, I avoid it like the plague, but on the other hand, who am I to tell my ailing mother she can't go there?**
So we went and ate at Chili's because it was on the way there, and then we went. And it was actually less awful than I thought it was going to be. They have remodeled since I was last there, and they have obviously been taking some cues from places like Marshall's and TJMaxx, and it was much better. Not that Marshall's is my very-favorite-place-to-shop-ever or anything, but it's still an improvement. They still didn't have any clothes I liked - Marshall's rarely does, either - but they did have some nice house stuff.
They still need to remodel their bathrooms, though.
**Because I just can't let that go without comment - my mother IS ailing, of course, but she's also only 66 years old and really not entirely decrepit. Just in case you had formed that impression. Because she would hate that. (But that doesn't mean that she's above using her infirmity to get her way, either.)
You know, friends-locking is the best thing Livejournal ever invented. Because I am paranoid and I wouldn't feel free to rant about my family otherwise!
Oh, and I almost forgot to say that we had a really wild thunderstorm late last night. I went to bed about a minute and a half before the power went out, and then I was just sure we were having a tornado, but it turned out to only be 60-mile-an-hour winds and thunder and lightning and (I think) a little bit of hail.
