That new car smell

We didn't even have the papers from the credit union that said we were pre-approved but the car dealership was like, oh, no problem, we'll work it out on Monday. Easiest car-buying experience I've ever had. (Credit unions are wonderful things, by the way. 5.85% for 5 years, and we were approved for considerably more than the car ended up costing, all in 10 minutes yesterday. Even if they apparently can't work a fax machine.)

When I lost the car in crash in summer I did look into Yaris. But as Yaris proved to be too expensive, the salesman did try to sell a Corolla to me.

But as I do not know how to deal with bigger cars, so Corolla was not acceptable for me anyway.

It does look nice and shiny, though!

We test-drove both the Yaris and the Corolla - or Rob did, since he's going to be the primary driver of this car. I just went along for the ride. The Yaris felt cramped, and he didn't like the way it handled - particularly the braking, which is a big thing. The Yaris is smaller, but it doesn't get any better gas mileage and it's not any cheaper, so we went with the Corolla. You would think it would get better mileage, wouldn't you? I understand the price thing, more or less - mainly it's that the Yaris is new (in the US) and it's selling very well so they're not discounting it, where they ARE offering discounts on the Corolla.

My first car was a Corolla. I think it was a '73. It was much smaller than this car - smaller than the Yaris, too, I think. It was tiny. But this Corolla did not feel excessively big to me. (This may be another one of those American things. By our standards the Corolla is still pretty small.)
