I nosed around other people's lists and finally googled for a list of what was released last year, and came up with this. Very possibly we saw some things early in the year that were 2011 releases, but if so I haven't figured out what those are. In no particular order, here are the movies I saw in theaters this past year:

Snow White and the Huntsman
The Hobbit
Skyfall
John Carter
The Avengers
The Secret World Of Arrietty
The Hunger Games
Moonrise Kingdom
Lincoln
Argo
Les Miserables

I'm sure I'm missing a thing or two, but that's pretty close. I work two out of every three weekends, and we generally only go to movies on the 3rd weekend or if there's a holiday or something, so my movie-going opportunities are pretty limited. And these days I, quite frankly, only go see things I'm pretty sure I'm going to enjoy - and I did quite well with that this year; every one of these were quite acceptable as an afternoon's entertainment.

What stood out? that's more difficult. The Avengers as summer blockbuster fodder, certainly. Moonrise Kingdom for whimsy (and not in a bad way). Lincoln as a history lesson. Argo as an utterly different sort of history lesson. Les Miz for getting Americans to go see opera (without ever realizing that that was what they were seeing, in most cases.)

And hmm, if we add a "lightweight class" to summer blockbusters for hugely underrated movies, I would have to stick John Carter in there (even though it actually came out in the spring). Because I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Well, I had some idea that Holidailies ended last night at midnight, like Cinderella, but apparently it's still going today. So I might as well say a thing or two more. For one thing - thanks to Richard and Jennifer for running Holidailies, and Jette, of course, for coming up with the idea!

I'm watching the Rose Parade - for once, I thought to tape it, which was good because I slept late, and then did a little work, too, since I slacked off yesterday. I am not all that big on holiday traditions outside of Christmas, really - but I do try to watch at least a bit of the Rose Parade. I like to see what they come up with.

We are going to see Django Unchained in a little while. I'm never sure what to expect with a Tarantino movie, but I'm sure it will be entertaining.

And it occurs to me (not that anybody has noticed, probably, but still) that I promised GW2 pictures and never delivered, so I'll finish with that.

I went through the World-vs-World area in passing yesterday and noticed how pretty the Wintersday decorations were:
