We are starting to cautiously hope that the fact that we haven't seen our apartment building on CNN (or anywhere else) is a good sign. There are some indications that there was a lot less water west of the San Luis. But we haven't seen any pictures whatsoever from down that way, so we don't really know. And we won't be able to get back onto the island for at least a couple of days so the suspense will have to continue.

Jesus... Have you folks thought about moving? I know it's probably an awful prospect, but the way the election is going we're probably not gonna do a damn thing about climate change for the next four years at least, so I suspect we're looking at lots and lots of hurricanes in the coming years.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to make you feel worse when you already have plenty to worry about. I hope your place is fine.

No, it's ok. Yes, we have discussed it - our intention has been to move inland (to Austin or somewhere around there) when we retire, which is still about 10 years away. We have jobs that we like and have good retirement benefits and good benefits in general. If it turns out that we don't have jobs any more because of this, then we might move sooner - but assuming our jobs are still there, we will probably go back for now, at least. You have to remember that this is the first big storm to actually hit Galveston in 25 years. We always know it's a possibility, but it's a rare occurrence.

Oops, I forgot I wasn't logged in. I guess it's clear enough that that was me, anyway.
