First movie of 2016

The Martian, last weekend at the Dollar Theater near JSC. There were people behind us having fairly technical (but usually brief) conversations in the middle of the movie about this point or that - I'm guessing those are likely to be NASA employees or contractors.

I enjoyed it just as much the second time. I had read the book in between, so I was sort of comparing the versions in my head. We decided they must have used a body double for Damon in the parts where he's supposed to be super-skinny - he clearly lost some weight, but probably not that much. But it was pretty seamless unless you were looking for it.

We saw it in 3D last time, but I can't say I especially noticed the difference. I rarely really do.

The book and the movie are really extraordinarily alike. Mostly just the book has so much more detail about all the technical aspects of it. Supposedly the guy who wrote it did the math and everything so that it's all at least plausible. But it's a short book and it doesn't go into so much detail it buries you.
