Lots of blarney

Somebody put green food coloring in our water cooler at work today.

I always get the feeling that there's something I'm missing about St. Patrick's Day. In my mind, it's just an excuse to drink, it's not a "real" holiday - whatever that means. I'm always a little mystified when people start putting up decorations and cooking special meals and stuff. (Although I have to admit I did think of swinging by Luby's tomorrow to see if they have corned beef. I didn't say I was consistent.) And then there's this whole phenomenon of St. Patrick's Day parades - not that I've ever seen one, because as far as I know there aren't any 'round here. Maybe all this just goes to show that I'm not Irish, I don't know. And then I'm also not too much into drinking as a pastime lately, either, so maybe that has something to do with it. I know I'm probably trying to make something out of nothing, here - but hey, where would Livejournal be without the ability to make a journal entry out of nothing?


(It was the people in the office next door who were going wacko with the green food coloring, in case you're wondering.)

Back when there were no food colors available in the Soviet Union, we used the medical green stuff meant for cleaning cuts to make food green.

Well, we did it for decorating Cristmas cookies, but still that was what came to my mind relating to the entry.

Oh, good, it's not just me. I woke up this morning, thinking, "Why am I so grinchy about St. Patrick's Day?"

My dad thinks it's the Welsh and German strains in us. We drink but are just quiet about it.
