I am still grouchy. I am getting very tired of feeling crappy about 50% of the time, to the point that I am tempted to try to set up a doctor's appointment - but I'm 99% sure this is allergy/sinus crap so there's probably not much they can do. Besides, I'm sort of leery of the whole ENT department since the last ENT doctor I had is now under investigation (or she still was the last time I saw her on CNN, anyway) for (allegedly) euthanizing people in New Orleans during Katrina. That just makes you a little jumpy, you know?

(Cut for more whining and some GuildWars)

At least I don't have the whole headache thing going on today. It's still there around the edges but I can cope with that. Yesterday I woke up with one so bad that I got out of the shower, took an Aleve and an Allegra-D, called in to work and went back to bed. (I did go to work, I was just a coupla hours late, that's all.) I've felt really funky ever since, too.

Anyway, if you're worrying about me, I do have a doctor's appointment before too long, and I will definitely be discussing this whole thing with my doctor then. I'm just not holding out much hope that she has a magic cure. With luck, the damn trees will all have stopped blooming by that time and it will have gotten better on its own.

Feeling funky and tired was not enough to stop me from playing GuildWars last night, of course. I have gotten my 2nd character, Alessa the warrior, caught up enough that she can do missions with Col's ranger (who is named Whimsy - you'll have to ask him about that name, I have never remembered to). (It's Whimsy Jones, actually, which sounds like something out of a 60s adventure series. Maybe that's the idea.) Anyway, Whimsy is a level 20 where Alessa is a level 15, but Whimsy is way behind on doing missions, and we had finally gotten Alessa over the mountains and into Kryta so that we could start a joint effort there. (And we got the mission and the bonus at Gates of Kryta on the very first try. The last time we did it, with Rima & Io, we wiped 2 or 3 times before we were able to finish.) We also did Mel the monk's very last Ascalon quest, which means as soon as she does one more mission she will be out of Ascalon and into the mountains, which is nice, since Ascalon is sort of depressing. And then we did Tamaya the ranger's very first mission - except I said it felt sort of like cheating to have a level 20 character helping too much with that (Tamaya is a lowly level 9), so instead we used Col's mesmer/monk character, Kaeleen, and Kaeleen confined her help mostly to healing duties, which worked well.

When I started playing this game, I really didn't expect to have near as much direct help from Col as I have ended up having, because he was so far ahead of me I didn't think he would want to spend the majority of his time getting me caught up. But he has, and it's been a lot of fun, and on the whole we've gotten along amazingly well. We do snipe at each other now & then, but not a lot, considering how much time we've spent on this in the last month or six weeks. (I'm guessing that the game can tell you how much time you've spent playing it - it seems to have a lot of stats like that hidden away if you know the right commands - but I'm not sure I want to know!)

We went to an open house Saturday at the most gorgeous house - if I had $400,000 to spare I would totally buy it. It was an older couple that Rob knows from running, and they have apparently spent the last 25 years remodeling it, and now they are moving to Guadalajara to retire. I forgot to ask how old the house was - at a guess I'd say it was built in the 1890s. It had to have been pre-1900 because they had a picture of it being jacked up when they raised the island after the storm. Among other things, it had stencilling in nearly every room, and the kind of library I've always dreamed about - a whole room lined with shelves, with one of those library ladders on rails that you can move around to reach the top. They had some really great artwork, too. Besides getting to see the house, some friends of ours turned up and we had a nice time talking to them, too. So see, a social life is not such a bad thing after all.
