The Ranger

I posted a bunch of Guildwars screenshots on Flickr last night, and Aet requested some explanation, so here goes. (Behind the cut...)

It might be easier to do this starting with my lowest-level character.



This is Tamaya the Ranger, in her very first armor back in pre-Searing. (All of the clothing on GuildWars characters is referred to as armor, whether it looks anything like armor or not. All of it does have some sort of armor protection, to a greater or lesser degree.) Actually I just got Tamaya a new set of armor last night, because I got her to Yak's Bend, where slightly better armor is available, and I promptly dyed it this color again, because I thought it suited her.

I said when I created Tamaya that I didn't intend to hurry her along - and then I said that probably I wouldn't hold to that, and I was right the 2nd time. She is almost done with Ascalon, which is the first big area of the main game. As I said, she got to Yak's Bend, which is in the mountains, last night, by completing the last Ascalon mission. She does have a couple of Ascalon quests left (and some of the Yak's Bend quests involve going back into the Ascalon Foothills, in any case), but still, she is getting pretty near being done with Ascalon. Which means that until they let you create more characters - which is supposed to be coming in the near future - *I* am pretty much done with Ascalon. (Actually you do get back into Ascalon, apparently, way at the very end of the game. But this is a long and complicated game and who knows if I will ever get to that point at all.)

(Also, I just noticed that Tamaya is so new in this picture that she doesn't even have any skills yet. The skills go in the boxes along the bottom, which you can see are blank. I must've taken this screenshot immediately after I created her.)

Here is one more pre-Searing picture of Tamaya. This is the "Across the Wall" mission, which is usually the last thing you do before you leave pre-Searing. (You can't do this mission by yourself - thus the presence of a character named King Lizard, if you look at the names to the right. He was a warrior and was actually very nice.) (Also visible in that picture, although you might have to look at the big version to be able to tell anything, is the ranger we were supposed to be rescuing.)



It took me a long time to figure out why it always looks cloudy in this part of Ascalon - everywhere else in pre-Searing it's sunny. It's not clouds, it's smoke - because this is north of the wall, where the Charr are already burning everything. Right after this is when they start blowing everything up.


Hmm, since this is obviously getting to be photo-heavy, I am going to break it up into parts. More later.
