Anniversaries
Aug. 24th, 2006 07:25 amHave y'all realized that not only is the first anniversary of Katrina coming up next week, but right after that is the 5th anniversary of 9/11? We're gonna be subjected to relentless disaster documentaries in the next couple of weeks.
It's rainy again today. I guess that's better than blazingly hot.
Actually, now that I think about it, I've already seen a couple of 9/11 pieces on the History Channel lately. And also there's this - an illustrated rendering of the findings of the 9/11 commission, which is much more interesting (at least so far) than it sounds. The pieces on the History Channel were pretty interesting too. I don't know about anybody else, but I'm finding that unless it's presented in a particularly heartwrenching manner, I can deal with 9/11 stuff pretty well now. I guess there's enough distance from it now that I can stand to watch. (Somebody who lives in NYC may feel differently about it.) I am especially fascinated, apparently, by the bits about the WTC buildings themselves, and why they came down and why those people in the stairwell of the north tower survived, and so forth. But then I have a long-standing interest in architecture so it makes a certain amount of sense that that would interest me.
