mellicious: pink manicure (Happy NY - sparkly)
That moment that I hate so much is about to arrive - the moment when I have to buckle down and start being responsible. I hate being responsible. I was born to be a dilettante. (But then, weren't we all?)

I have to find a job. I have to figure out if I know where my Social Security card is and who my old supervisors are and where, exactly, I'm really going to apply. I need to install Microsoft Office on the new computer and figure out what pieces of it I've gotten rusty on in the last few years. I need to call up the Benefits office at my old employer and find out how to switch my benefits over to spousal benefits from Rob. (Although Rob may be able to take care of a lot of that part himself.) I need to call the Center for Weight Management and find out what's going on with them.

Assuming that I won't be able to just walk in and find a job right away, or at least not a permanent, full-time one, I need to get our financial house in order. I need to cancel things that we don't use/don't really need - like Netflix, which we really haven't been using, and the dialup service I always kept as a backup in case cable went down. I also have to finish up my mother's estate, at long last. And I need to get the money from Mama's annuity, which is in a money-market account at an investment company with no local branches, and transfer it somewhere I can get my hands on it a little more easily. I need to attempt to figure out when and if I'm going to move some of that money to mutual funds.

I could go on, but I won't. I've had a lovely six-week vacation and it's over, and now I have to go back to the real world. But ugh. Times like this, I just want to crawl back into the womb.

Things to do before 3:00:
Pack clothes, etc. for two or three days. (We still don't know how long we're staying at my aunt's.)
Do cards for neighbors - enlist Rob to go put them on people's doors.
Call my aunt and check in?
Go by Chase and start trust accounts for me and Paula. Take paperwork by lawyer's office.
Figure out what beads (findings, etc.) I'm taking with me. *
Post something for Holidailies

Things not to forget: fruit for fruit salad, rolls out of the freezer, laptop (for clandestine WoW time), stockings, iPod (which allegedly is a Christmas present but which I keep using), address book - which I always seem to need if I don't have it. Camera.

Our land-line doesn't seem to be working but I just don't have the energy to worry about that today. I'll deal with it when we get home.

I'm craving ham. I may ask my aunt if anybody is already bringing one, and if not, go buy a small one. Assuming I can find time to go to the grocery store.

*That's my gift to my cousins (and any other assorted relatives who happen to be on hand) - made-to-order jewelry. I'm letting them pick out their own beads. I didn't figure there was much use in trying to do anything other than earrings ahead of time. With bracelets, especially, it's hard to figure out what will fit, especially given the range of ages involved.

I am up because I have Things to Do and I am planning on sneaking off to the quilt show this afternoon, but I think I am going to have to make a Starbucks run in order to get my brain engaged. I did schlep the old coffeemaker over here, but I am not certain it is clean enough to use, or that we actually have any coffee other than instant - and I just do not do instant. So Starbucks it is. Besides, I can get some oatmeal, which is another thing I would never actually make for myself.

I was going to post the mini-map from, but I can't get it to work. So you'll just have to go look at it for yourself. I don't know about you but I'm afraid to believe it. Also, I would just like the election to be over please. (I would also like Sarah Palin to go away but I don't think that's gonna happen.)

I have a pair of black devil horns on a hairband that I bought at HEB weeks ago, and I am totally going to have to wear them to the quilt show, don't you think?

I almost forgot that I am supposed to be blogging posting daily starting tomorrow. We'll see how that goes.

OK, off to Starbuck's.
